What Is Bloodborne?

Bloodborne is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, it released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 system on March 24, 2015.

Set in the decrepit Gothic city of Yharnam, players take on the role of a Hunter navigating a nightmarish world where a mysterious blood-borne plague has transformed the city's inhabitants into horrific beasts. The game draws heavily from Victorian Gothic horror and the cosmic dread of H.P. Lovecraft's works.

Bloodborne is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made, praised for its atmosphere, combat, world design, and haunting soundtrack. Its sole expansion, The Old Hunters, released in November 2015, is equally revered.

The Exclusivity Situation

Because Sony funded and published Bloodborne, it remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Unlike other FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls, Sekiro and Elden Ring, Bloodborne has never been released on PC or any other platform.

The game is locked to 30fps with inconsistent frame pacing, and its resolution caps at 1080p. There has never been a PS4 Pro patch, a PS5 upgrade, or a remaster of any kind. For a game of its stature, this is a sore point for its passionate community.

Rumours Abound

Beyond the release of The Old Hunters, the game received no further support from Sony or FromSoftware. While the game is cherished, the lack of Pro support, a remaster, port or any kind of enhancement puzzled fans.

A 60FPS fan patch developed by Lance McDonald gave players a glimpse into the future potential of Bloodborne's performance on future consoles but nothing was ever done beyond that. The game remained locked on the PlayStation ecosystem - with no software patches to take advantage of the newer PlayStation 5 hardware.

Members of the community became desperate, clutching to the idea that one day something will be done with the game. Rumours of ports, remasters and remakes came and went - even other Sony exclusives were ported to PC. Unfortunately, nothing could prepare the community for the compounding disappointment every time a rumour was disproved.

These rumours have been something of a meme for some time now, and are a staple of every major video game showcase or awards show. No stream is complete without the Live Chat spamming "Bloodborne Remaster" or Maximilian Dood betting thousands of gift subs for some sort of news.

With any kind of news, or lack thereof, the community only becomes more emboldened and remains steadfast for an announcement. Perhaps someday - but for now, it's all about persistence.

A Brief History

2015: Bloodborne releases on the PlayStation 4 system. The Old Hunters - the first and only expansion for Bloodborne - releases several months later.

2016: Dark Souls 3 releases and marks the end of the trilogy. With it's multiplatform success, many players want the same for Bloodborne. Whispers of a PC port appear in forums but nothing ever materializes.

2018: Talk of Bloodborne spinoffs and ports are now common. As a result, Bloodborne Kart is rumoured as a title for E3 2018 but the joke is too apparent.

2020: Rumours of a Bloodborne remaster and PC port began circulating after several credible insiders claimed the project existed. PC ports of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Death Stranding fuels the fire. @wario64 tweets "You can play Bloodborne on PC with PS Now...or wait a little longer" and the community is driven into a frenzy - filled with hope and possibilities. @isbbonpc starts tweeting.

2022: More industry insiders and journalists suggest a Bloodborne remaster is real. Nvidia's leaked GeForce Now database does not include a Bloodborne listing which conflicts earlier reports of a port happening. Bloodborne PSX, a fan-made demake of the game is made available for download.

2023: Reports surfaced that the remaster project had been shelved or was in limbo, with conflicting accounts about whether it had been cancelled or merely paused. The community's hopes dimmed.

2024: In an interview with PC Gamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed personal interest in a Bloodborne PC release, but clarified that FromSoftware does not own the IP - Sony does. Meanwhile, the shadPS4 emulator made significant progress, with developers demonstrating hours of playable Bloodborne footage on PC through emulation.

2025: Bloodborne's 10th anniversary in March came and went without any announcement from Sony. Industry insiders reported that the official port was at a standstill, primarily because FromSoftware remained focused on other projects. Sony releases a 30th Anniversary trailer featuring gameplay from Bloodborne with the tagline: "It's about persistence".

2026 : Reports emerged that Sony may be reconsidering its PC porting strategy entirely. There are also conflicting reports regarding Bluepoint Games working on a Bloodborne remaster or remake - with the project apparently being shelved.

20xx : The wait continues.

Why does this website exist?

The demand for a PC port is driven by more than just platform preference. The community wants to experience Bloodborne with unlocked framerates, higher resolutions, ultrawide support, faster load times, and the vibrant modding community that has elevated every other FromSoftware title on the platform.

Many PC-only players have simply never had the opportunity to play the game at all. For a title routinely called one of the greatest ever made, its imprisonment on aging hardware feels like a disservice to both the game and its potential audience.

After maintaining the Twitter/X page for several years and trying to keep the community's hope alive, I decided a more global platform like this website would be a nice addition.

And so, every day, we check. Every day, the answer is the same.

But a hunter must hunt.
